This shirt is inspired by a beaded scarf. BODE has reproduced the beadwork with figures from an embroidery sampler worked in 1789.

Samplers, sewing exercises used to teach and perfect needlework skills, have been standard practice for centuries but are particularly associated with early American craft. The shirt is hand-beaded with orange-and-yellow flowerpots, trees, and horses.
